Apple Airport Extreme no LAN when broadband down

Hi

I'm having a weird problem with my Airport Extreme. When my broadband connection goes down I also seem to lose LAN connectivity between my Macs.

Although the Macs are still connected via wifi to the Extreme they just can't talk to each other. I can also still use the airport utility to configure the Extreme from my Macbook.

Anyone know how to fix this?
