This has now been revealed as an elaborate hoax

Apple today announced that it will hold a special event at the Moscone Center in San Francisco on March 1st, AppleInsider has learned.

"Please Join Steve and Bono," reads the red invitation with an AIDS awareness bow positioned at the center . "Together We Can Fight It"

a red ipod would be prety cool. The money would go to the cancer society hopefully?

the red ribbon is AIDS, not cancer... but yeah, it would be cool if they gave these profits for research.

I think it's more likely to be an AIDS charity if that's the AIDS awareness logo? Either way, it's a fantastic gesture from Apple.

Apple confirms special event invite a fake

"Despite an earlier report, Apple will not be holding a special event next month. An Apple representative has confirmed to iLounge that the invitation sent to several online publications is an elaborate fake. The sender was apparently taking advantage of recent speculation that Apple would introduce a red iPod as part of Bono’s Product RED initiative to help fight AIDS. iLounge apologizes for any confusion this may have caused.

American Express, Converse, Gap and Giorgio Armani have all joined the project and plan to release specially-designed red products with a portion of the profits going to the Global Fund to support AIDS programs in Africa. The U2 frontman was reportedly overheard mentioning that Apple would be joining the initiative and introduce a red iPod."

Stinks its a fake I was thinking a special edition video ipod would be pretty cool. Red would have been sweet.
