Bit click-baity maybe, but a frustration nonetheless.
I have a 15PM. My wife has a regular 16.
I noticed a while ago (8th of June to be exact) when playing with photo editing on my wife’s 16, that she has an editing feature called ‘Styles’. Might be a bit gimmicky, but I kinda’ liked it.
Anyhow. She took a photo of me on a walk that day, and it was a decent photo. I Airdropped it to my phone and went to edit. I noticed when I hit the edit button, that not only was portrait accessible/editable, but I also had the option to edit the photo using ‘Styles’. It’s like the feature had airdropped to my phone as well.
Fast forward to today. I went to work, wife took a few photos of my children. They were ok photos, but needed tweaking. I asked her to send them via iMessage. I saved them all to my camera roll, went to edit expecting to be able use Styles and adjust the depth of field with Portrait-but to my surprise, despite Portrait appearing (the word) at the top of the image, portrait didn’t appear in the editing section. So, when I got home, I deleted the images and instead airdropped them to my phone to see if that made a difference. It did not. I went back to the image that she took on the 8th of June and airdropped that to my iPhone again, and when I went to edit, all those iPhone 16 editing features were again accessible. (I’ll attach screenshots).
What’s the deal? Is it just luck? Should I have access to those editing features from an Airdropped image on my device? If they can be used despite not being available as an option in my iPhones editing tools, why aren’t they just enabled full stop? The device can obviously handle it: it’s annoying that to be able to edit it the way I want, I have to do it on my wife’s iPhone 16 before I send it to my 15PM. Am I missing something, or is this Apple holding features back despite the fact they clearly work ok. I should be able to edit Portrait if nothing else shouldn’t I?
Anyone else notice this?
All of the images below were taken on the 16: nothing has been changed-the first selfie of us, you’ll see the editing options available on my 15PM. The next photo, taken on the same 16, after sharing to my iPhone, none of those editing options available. Yet on the third image, with editing closed, you can see that the image is a Portrait image, so that option should be accessible regardless, but it isn’t.
