If you live in an area that’s prone to wildfires, Watch Duty is a must have. It provides realtime alerts and information about fires, evacuations, and firefighting efforts.
Oh I need that! Gonna check it out now.

Edit: must be US only ☹️

I'm not, but that is some good info!!

Very happy to see Balatro getting its flowers here. It was a massive game and won several awards but it deserved all of them.

I don't think Dredge sold as well but it's still a great game.

Pleasantly surprised to see Neva get an award but it's well-deserved.

Infinite Nikki looks pretty (which is what it got an award for) but holy crap is it a micro-transaction hellscape.

Watch Duty definitely saved some lives, or at least saved some people's belongings from melting

A Temu copycat app won? Oy vey.
Taobao is one of the first Chinese shopping app and the largest ecommerce platform in China. If anything Temu as the latecomer copied their interface. It's from the same company as the one behind Aliexpress.

Whose palms did Taobao grease to win? That's wild, full of insane. spammy ads and popups.
The award is for their VisionOS app which looks quite nice. I agree tho that their iOS app interface is spammy and looks atrocious.

Every time I open it up:

"Taobao would like to paste from whatever you have on your clipboard"

Oh, would it now?

I eventually made my peace with that insanely cluttered type of UI though, understanding it's just regional design preference and I am not its target audience.

Precisely this. Watch Duty is fantastic for collating all available information about fires in your area, in real time, and sending you notifications for nearby ones (if you choose). I get notifications from Watch Duty well ahead of those from the local news stations.

ETA: I'm also pleasantly surprised to see that Ground News got a nomination in the same category. Excellent app.

TaoBao? Really? What is Apple smoking. You can't even use their site in English, or even register for that matter. The captcha is in Chinese and if you use google lens they have it on a low contrast background so you can't translate it. This is very strange. Sounds like a payoff somewhere.

Not sure whether these apps and games are good but will try out some of the games from the list.

Who's picking these apps?!? There's a few good ones (Neva, Watch Duty) but the rest are "meh" ... I just can't believe this is the Best of the Best.
