Apple today announced that four new games will be added to Apple Arcade this month, including NBA 2K24 Arcade Edition, Cut the Rope 3, Jeopardy! World Tour+, and Crossword Jam+. In addition, Apple said over 30 games available on the service will be receiving updates this month, such as Fruit Ninja Classic+ and Cityscapes: Sim Builder.

Details about the upcoming games and updates can be found in the Apple Newsroom announcement on Apple's website.

Launched in November 2019, Apple Arcade is a subscription-based gaming service accessible through the App Store. Priced at $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year in the U.S., the service provides subscribers with access to nearly 300 games across the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. All games on Apple Arcade are free of ads and in-app purchases.

Apple Arcade is included for three months for free with the purchase of a new Apple device, such as the new iPhone 15 models. Apple says this offer is available for first-time subscribers and "qualified" returning subscribers.

No ads, no in-app purchases.

What do people expect for 5 bucks a month?

Apple has been pushing gaming for a decade, and the push will only get harder with Vision Pro.

Expect this to have different tiers, eventually, for better games.

And expect Apple to start buying small game companies. They are not going to let gaming escape them anymore. It's too important for growth.

Xbox Game Pass is $11 a month and has over 400 games with 5-10 added bimonthly, support streaming on your phone, and offers deep discounts if you wish to purchase said game

Nintendo Switch Online is $20 a year and has a catalog of hundreds of old Nintendo games from the NES to the N64

$5 a month for what is primarily remasters of mobile games we played 10 years ago is not that good an offer when compared to others. There's a reason Apple doesn't want Xbox Game Pass on the App Store.

Apple has been pushing gaming for a decade, and the push will only get harder with Vision Pro.

Yes pushing gaming by essentially destroying Mac gaming with Mojave depreciating OpenGL and forcing everyone to use Metal, and Catalina killing 32 bit app support making the long catalog of Mac games no longer playable, which in turn caused a mass developer exodus.

It's gonna take a lot more than a few ports to convince people that Apple is actually serious about gaming especially after a long history of talking down the game industry. Friendly reminder under oath during Apple vs Epic Tim Cook said he didn't know who Valve was or what Steam was, DESPITE INVITING THEM AS KEY SPEAKERS DURING WWDC 2016!

Expect this to have different tiers, eventually, for better games.

Yeah that ain't happening lmao. Apple ain't gonna start buying developers and publishers like Microsoft and Sony does no matter how much you want them to. They only buy startups that help them with R&D for bigger projects, with the only major acquisitions they did being NeXT to get the NeXTSTEP OS as the framework for Mac OS X and to get Steve Jobs back, and Beats by Dre to get their audio engineers to create the first AirPods.

slight correction: Apple bought Beats primarily for the music streaming platform (which was rebranded as Apple Music) and the existing licensing deals.

Nope! I'm just not a l33t g4m3r with a bunch of LEDs on their computers that obsesses how many polygons make up their games and how to maximize FPS.

It's peace of mind, simple games that are easy to play and have fun with for a few weeks. That's what gaming is all about!

Graphics has nothing to do with it. The games in Apple Arcade are mainly just remasters of mobile games we already played. There's better pick up and play games (especially on the Nintendo Switch) that are vastly better than what Apple Arcade offers.

Oh really? I thought it was for their audio engineers, as Beats' audio engineers were the best in the biz.
I’m sure the hardware side probably played into how much Apple was willing to pay, but iTunes music sales had been falling and Apple was having trouble developing their own music streaming platform at the time.

$29+ for a game that has no online checkin, no in-app purchases, that you will sink hundreds of hours in and will stick with you for the rest of your life.

Yeah you're right it's not comparable. Games on Switch (and Steam Deck for that matter) are in a whole different league compared to Apple Arcade.

I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.....

I am an adult and don't want to spend that much money on games that will collect dust around the apartment. $250+ for a Nintendo and Pokemon or a nice hotel room for the night with the wife and a little Apple Arcade after having some fun. Hmmmm.....

I’ll take Apple Arcade more seriously when/if it gives me access to games like Death Stranding and Baldur’s Gate 3. I haven’t been interested in things like cut the rope for well over ten years.

You're proving Jack Black's song correct

You don't have to be afraid to play video games anymore just because you're an adult, especially with the amount of greatness coming out of PlayStation over the entire PS4 generation.

You know the Nintendo Switch has a lot of games you can play with your wife together. There's It Takes Two, a co-op platformer about a couple forced to fix their relationship, and that game won game of the year 2021.

You can play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe together, or Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Or get some friends and have a fun time with Mario Party. This month Super Mario Bros Wonder is coming out and that you can play together. Warioware is also a really fun game to play together with many different wacky microgames.

Then there's unforgettable single player experiences like Zelda Breath of the Wild (which won GOTY) or Tears of the Kingdom, or Metroid Prime Remastered, or the upcoming remakes of Super Mario RPG or Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door. Fire Emblem Three Houses also has an amazing story that really stuck with people.

I get Arcade free through Verizon. I’m not a gamer, but I do like to play some games from the Arcade. I’m excited about Jeopardy, though!! Looks like it’ll be available this Friday. My wife and I watch/play all the time on TV.

Not everything has to be catered to what you want. I don't get much use out of Apple Arcade for myself, but as a parent...it's an absolute win 🤷‍♂️

If I was a parent I'd get my kid a Switch Lite and a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. They'd get a lot more fun and enjoyment out of that with the back catalog of classic Nintendo games than just slightly enhanced versions of mobile games they already have.

Hell my nephews when they visit the only thing they wanna do is play games on my Steam Deck instead of playing stuff on their phones.
