The Loop notes that Apple has begun shipping Logic Express 9, an updated version of the company's middle-tier audio suite positioned as offering additional tools to GarageBand users.
Logic Express fits between GarageBand at the low-end and Logic Pro at the high-end, in Apple’s music software line-up. Logic Express is more like Logic Pro in its look and feel than GarageBand.
Announced last month alongside revamped versions of Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Server, and Logic Studio, Logic Express had simply been advertised as shipping in August. Logic Express is priced at $199.

man, I'm hoping Final Cut Express 5 comes off the heels of this.

EXACTLY...and a logic studio price break to $299 next week:D

But for real. I want FCE 5 September 22nd. Yep. 9/22/09. You heard it here first.

Gives me time to unload my FCE 4 upgrade for a penny. A pretty one...

... Seriously, who uses Logic now that Protools 8 got better composing features...

As long as a person achieves results what difference does a person's choice/preference really make? Virtually everyone has different needs, expectations, and preferences, so the choice is largely a matter of personal choice, budget, etc. Time-consuming debates, re: the merits of Logic vs. Protools, usually do little in way of swaying opinions of people in either "camp", but they do tend to waste a good deal of valuable time that could otherwise be put to better use, i.e. creating music.

are we really gonna do this? start bitchin' about each others choice of daw? for the thousandth time on the net?

ye, i've got music to make. and i don't really care how i do it, or what i use to make it.

i suggest you do the same

No price protection ... argh

As someone who just bought a MBP with logic express 8 pre-installed, I greet the release of LE9 with an "argh".

Since Apple doesn't publish a release schedule, I'd at least expect them to offer price-protection for recent purchasers...

Now, I'll hesitate prior to buying Apple software. I'd rather not.

The fact that all of the pro apps were released at the same time except FCE 5 worries me.

I plan to upgrade to the new logic express in the hopes that it will be a bit easier to enter data. The current way to do so is wack.

Yeah, I'm a bit worried about FCE 5 as well.

I'm just hoping that they are using the time to make/perfect a mid-tier DVD maker to include with it(as far as I know, Apple only has iDVD and DVD studio 4 or whatever comes in FCS 3).

Le8

I'm glad I pulled the trigger last month to get LE8 for my powerpc machine. LE9 is great for those with bigger budgets than I - a new machine is still a few years off.

I think the only new feature out of all that lot that I might actually use would be the guitar chord notation - certainly not worth the £79 upgrade. Anyway, I've just got to grips with LE8...
