The buzz at the mall this morning is that Apple has begun tracking iPad serial numbers and will ban buyers for up to two years who are reselling the devices with big markups. Heavy attention will be paid to overseas sales, eBay and even local Craigslist ads in locations that have Apple stores.

I hope this is true.

What is the buzz at the mall? Is this something you over heard while getting some coffee in the break room?

You honestly believe that apple will say "sorry sir, we do not want your $499-$839, please look elsewhere for devices." El oh el. I really hope some folks on this board are 13 years old to believe theories like this.

Zero chance of this being true, and no way of implementing it even if they wanted to.
Once you buy it it's yours, sell it on or use it as a frisbee apple get payed and don't care.

No idea, some guy came storming back from the front of the line and was telling people he'd been told he couldn't buy anymore and that's what they told him.

If its the same guy that the Apple store employees keep seeing, then maybe they are indiscriminately refusing to sell to him. We'll see how this plays out if indeed Apple stores are going w/ this policy.

I meant for the title to have a ? in it.
I was not trying to report this as a fact. Maybe the mods can fix that?

I can say that everyone in line got a res today. Much better than Saturday so either they are refusing people or they got a LOT more stock this time.

Is only 2 iPad for person. :) Maybe he is a eBay seller. :D

All I can picture is some tall lanky pasty white kid with his arms up in the air like a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man whining to anyone that will listen that Apple called the FBI & he is being shipped to Guantanamo for making a profit in a capitalistic society.

What probably actually happened is this same guy has been in line multiple times & the Apple employees recognized him from every other morning. They came up with some insane story to tell him and he got his panties in a twist over it because he was unable to buy his 26th iPad when he still has 15 on eBay/craigslist.

Or maybe he was just high on crack.

HAHAHAHAHA Thats definitely true!

Don't be so sceptical! ;)

This.

I believe, in a thread here, a link was posted where someone was whining about being turned away from Apple because he had been there too many times. So yeah.
