I was checking out Apple's online store just now and noticed the bluetooth headset from Apple is a bit updated: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB536LL/A?mco=MTIyNjk

Its $30 cheaper and from reading through the page, it doesn't seem to come with the dock anymore...I'm thinking the dual dock that originally came with the headset is only compatible with the original iphone, because it seems they are selling the dual dock by itself: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA944LL/A?mco=MzA4Njc

So I'm wondering now if you can just simple connect the bluetooth headset travel cable to the back of the new iphone 3g dock and have both devices plugged in. Sort of another way around the dual dock.

That'll probably work fine. The dock isn't anything fancy, just a weighted base with a pass-thru connector. Some have line/video outputs and IR ports.

Apple dropped the docks on the iPods a couple years ago, too. It does help to make them cheaper, and they don't get something they might not need or want..
