Pocket-lint notes that Apple's online store downtime earlier today saw the expansion of chat support services for iPad and iPhone customers in the UK, Germany, Spain, and Brazil. The updated chat options include the ability to participate in a traditional text chat with a Specialist, a guided tour in which the customer can share the Specialist's screen to be walked through product information, and scheduling of online sessions to help set up new devices.
Now there's a whole new way to get help from the Apple Online Store. When shopping for a new iPad or iPhone, you can get answers to all your questions through a personalised, online guided tour. We can even help set up your new product after you get it.

The features are not completely new, as Apple rolled out revamped text chat windows and began testing the screen sharing option in Brazil back in April. At the time, the screen sharing feature was limited to customers shopping for the iPad 2.

The advanced chat screen sharing and device setup options are not yet available in the United States or other countries, and even in countries where the options have launched availability may be limited.

With the emphasis now being profit driven rather than customer service driven, it might be more beneficial not having to set foot in an actual Apple store now.

I wonder if this is the start of Apple Expert Video chatting. Now wouldn't that be awkward.

Cue "They spelled 'Personalized' wrong" comments.
A lot of people can't tell apart different localisations of English. And they believe their spelling is the only right way.

Apple spelt everything correct for the markets this service is being targeted at.

Based on all the pics of the smiling Apple employees... it's clear they don't hire any fat people.

Probably because the stores are so busy and floor space is tight...

next thing, they'll be downgrading the Genius Bar with a bunch of "chat terminals"....bring back Stevie, all is forgiven:apple:

With the "Americans are so stupid" responses...

We are raised with the American spellings of words, can you blame people for seeing a word that is technically spelled wrong in their country and noticing it? Don't you notice when people spell "favorite" instead of "favourite"? In fact, my Mac just put a red dotted line under the word "favourite" telling me that it's spelled incorrectly. It's a pretty innocent mistake if you ask me.

Probably so that they could have people who (for illogical reasons) type "Apple are" instead of "Apple is".
Don't get me started, except to note that they don't say "Great Britain are..."

If by "we" you mean US citizens, fine - thousands of MR users do not come from the US of A.

Considering that the service above is NOT yet available in the US, it's more than obvious that US-English spelling would not be used in the UK.

After all, Apple is an international company with branches and subsidiaries all over the world, not to mention the diversity of its staff. The US is just a minority market right now; and this trend will get even stronger in the coming years, considering the strength of major emerging powers like Brazil, China etc.

Oh, look they have grey shirts now!

More Apple esque colours. Since Samsung are blue and white, Apple are grey and white! ISN'T IT JUST GREAT WHEN THE WORLDS MAKES SENSE.

This is front page news?

I thought Page 1 news was reserved for things like videos comparing iPhone parts. :p
