Alongside the launch of updated iMacs, Apple today also made a minor update to the iMac Pro, equipping the base configuration with the 10-core 3.0 GHz Xeon W chip that was previously an upgrade option.

All other specs appear to remain the same, with 14-core and 18-core processors available as upgrades. The starting price also remains at $4,999, although the stepped-up base processor essentially results in an $800 price cut on upgraded models.

Notably, the iMac Pro is not getting the $500 nano-texture glass option that was made available on the regular 27-inch iMac today.

It's the last iMac Pro model ... better remove the inventory.
EDIT for clarification.

I guess my 8 core iMac Pro is now discontinued... Hopefully the Apple Silicon iMac Pro model will be fantastic!

With Apple Silicon on the way anything other than spec bumps was unlikely for the iMac Pro. Yes, they could've done something with the screen to match the iMac update, but at least they did *something*. More noticeable to me was the focusing on how good the new iMac is for use with pro apps. It makes me think that the iMac Pro may disappear as a machine when the Apple Silicon versions launch. They've already said that there will be a range of chips powering those machines so having every iMac (including the fastest available) all marketed together would make more sense going forward without one called a "Pro".

I love my iMac Pro so I hope that they still have a space grey option when the redesigned Apple powered iMacs are released.

But... the iMac has nano-texture glass...

My thoughts exactly. I wonder what kept them from adding it on the iMac Pro?

I really want there to be a 2nd gen iMac Pro with Apple Silicon, but I'm guessing this will be the "clearing inventory" update before killing it

It'll take some time before the higher end models get Apple Silicon. I remember the switch to Intel took about 18months before the PowerMac G5 went to the Mac Pro. The first models were of course the MacBook Pro (PowerBooks) then the MacBook (iBook) then the iMac, then the Mini, then finally the Mac Pro was released.

How come this one didn’t get the nano texture option? Seems odd.

probably the most overpriced apple product...

Eh, like many Apple products, the base model often provides the best bang-for-the-buck. Spec’ing out like for like, maybe there’s a $1K premium that the base iMac Pro has over a BTO 2020 iMac. If you’re going to render for hours at a time, maybe the premium is worth it.

Looks like all those claiming new redesigned iMacs were coming were wrong. It's silly to think they'd drop a redesign with old Intel processors rather than wait for the new ARM chips to accompany a redesign. We won't see any new Macs redesigned before the ARM processors hit.

I thought the Intel Xeon W 2xxx Cascade Lake CPUs were just drop in replacements for the existing Xeon W 1xxx Skylake CPUs in the existing iMac Pros needing just an EFI update on the chipset? Kind of lazy of Apple not to do a basic CPU refresh. GPU updates would require hardware changes though and I guess they felt if wasn't worth it if they refreshed the CPUs but not the GPUs.
