Apple Calendar on Mac - Search Capability?

When I search for an event that I know is in my calendar from a few years back - I can't find the event via search in the apple calendar because it only queries back 1 year. It used to search the whole database - what happened? How can I use the search functionality to query all history and not just 1 year?
