Apple is planning to build a visitor's center on its new "spaceship" campus, which will include a rooftop observation deck that overlooks the main building, a cafe, and a 10,114 square-foot store where visitors will be able to "view and purchase the newest Apple products."

The structure, like many of Apple's retail stores, will be made of glass with a carbon fiber roof and large skylights. Stairs and elevators will take visitors up to the viewing deck, where the ring-shaped building housing Apple employees will be visible. Apple's current campus included a now-closed store that sold Apple-branded apparel and sundries, but a dedicated visitor's center with a store selling Apple products will be a new addition.

Details on the visitor's center were found by Silicon Valley Business Journal in documents that were filed with the city of Cupertino back in April. Previous approvals for the campus included mention of a visitor's center in a glass building, but details on the interior of the building were not available until this year.

According to the plans, Apple aims for the visitor's center at 10700 N. Tantau to "create a public face of the Apple Campus 2 that reflects Apple's business and design practices, and allows for a long-term presence in Cupertino." (Neighbors will be glad to know that a screen will block views onto an adjacent single-family-home community.) Parking will be mostly below grade with 684 spaces, with elevators taking visitors into the center.
Construction on Apple's second campus is still underway. Video footage shot in June suggests the foundation has been finished, with the first walls of the ring-shaped structure going up. Work on a nearby underground parking facility is also nearing completion. Apple is planning to finish construction on the main building in late 2016.

When complete, the new campus will feature a 2.8 million square foot ring-shaped main building, an underground aprking lot, a 100,000 square foot fitness center, and a 120,000 square foot 1,000-seat auditorium for hosting events, and the newly-described visitor's center.

A rooftop observation deck? I didn't think the building was going to be *that* tall.

Loos really nice.

Very needed. 1 Infinite Loop gets busloads of tourists. Parking there is a nightmare, and security has to try to figure out whether everyone in the lobby is actually meeting someone or just there for photos.

'Parking will be mostly below grade'

Why the shoddy parking?

Steve Jobs loved driving, I thought. Perhaps Cook is trying to make a point about 'climate change' or something.

Those cherry blossoms in that rendering look pretty nice..... when finished, that campus is going to be some iconic building that many, including yours truly, would love to visit. Where do I make a reservation?.....

I would have said that you need to camp out for the grand opening like any new Apple release. However, if Angela has anything to do with this, my guess is that you will have to pre order a ticket for launch date only to be told that you will receive your ticket 6 week later than the launch date. She will tell us not to stand in line but to patiently wait home-alone.

Personally, I hope that beyond the visitor center they actually give tours through the building. I suspect that it would be interesting to see the architecture of the building up close and personal. But again, Angela will probably only give us a virtual guided tour. :(

Yes there will be. All the fanboys will be kept there to show the visitors how people can shell out hundred of dollars for a simple upgrade!

LOL, probably true. Maybe they'll put the fanboy display in a glass enclosure, so people can walk around outside of it and watch them in their natural state. I wonder whether they'll put the troll habitat on the roof or in the bottom of the parking structure...

I can't see any loos in that photo.

I imagine they would provide at least one lavatory, though.

Perhaps providing no water closets would keep the employees on their toes.

They are underground, next to the parking areas. ;)

Or maybe they are going to provide a "new", "magical" experience during "potty time" where you just find the nearest tree and water/fertilize it right out in the open? /s

I'm sure they have them tucked away somewhere out of sight yet accessible.

on a side note, I think the renderings need more trendy ****** with messenger bags for it to appear more realistic.

It still boggles my mind how much they're spending on this whole deal. That money could be better spent on so many other things.
