Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers are able to individually repair the bottom-right microphone on the lower-end iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, according to information obtained by MacRumors today from multiple sources.

The new procedure of replacing this microphone on its own should make these repairs cheaper for customers, and also less wasteful, as part of Apple's focus on environmental responsibility. As for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, and other iPhone models, repairing this microphone still requires replacing the entire mid-frame chassis.

For repairs of all other microphones on iPhones, including next to the earpiece and rear camera, a mid-frame replacement is still required.

Apple charged me $980aud to replace FACE ID on my old iPhone X when it was around 4 years old. A know problem and planned failure point. It was great to see they dropped this to $240 because Apple magically realised they could actually repair it without replacing the whole phone. Such environmentalists.

good to know that the mic in the phone that got into customer's hands first time today can be repaired ...

Roadblock is always on the senior management side, always. Engineers don’t have much input on anti-consumer designs even if they want to be environmentally conscious.
Given the typical Stubbornness of those people, I don’t want to hold my breath on hoping these things will happen on its own. Intensive legal and regulation pressure is pretty Much the only way for Apple to do the right thing.

I’m not defending the cost of the repair but it makes complete sense why they would change manufacturing between the X and the 15 years later to make it easier to repair. The X was the very first iPhone with Face ID.

Wait..they “charged” you? Does this mean you actually paid it? Why not buy a new phone? Or do you mean they wanted to charge it?

This is somewhat off topic but I keep seeing the wallpaper on the iPhone 15 that is in this article. I just got an iPhone 15 pro and it doesn’t have this wallpaper. Anyone know where I can find it?

The situation is definitely better now. I had my broken FaceID camera and old battery replaced on my iPhone 11 at an Apple Store for about €200.
