For those in a similar situation, I ordered a new 4s as a "sub account" of a main account on a family plan. I was able to checkout at Apple.com, but not edit the ship to address. My credit card billing address is different.

I called Apple to see if they could update it to match my bill to address, but they said that AT&T is not allowing this and they cannot make this chance. They said the only circumstance in which this would be updated is if you changed the main AT&T billing address. For me this is not an option as I am just a sub account on the main account (Family Plan).

The rep said it will not be a problem if the billing does not match the shipping address and that it will not be declined. So I will have to have the phone re-shipped once it arrives at the main account's address.

Ordering a cell phone has to be the most clunky process of all time. Or AT&T just sucks

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-gb) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

Have this issue in the uk. Billing and shipping must match can't have it shipped to work. Bit pants but hey I'm getting my new phone in 7 days!

i just got off the phone with Apple. the nice lady offered to make a one time exception to at&t's silly rule. she was very understanding of the inconvenience that this can cause. maybe try again and hope for a different sales rep

They ship to the address on record for the account. Why is this such a surprise to people. If you don't live at the same address you really shouldn't be on their family plan anyway. Order the phone then have the account holder ship it to you. It will only add another day or two.

Damn...I will have to try again. The guy I talked to made it clear the policy was strict.
