Hi,

Bought a Macbook Pro from a student. Checked the serial number to make sure it wasn't stolen or anything.

Now the screen is broken, but my serial number can't be found via https://selfsolve.apple.com/wcResults.do, which means the Service Center can't do anything.

The serial can be found via http://support.apple.com/specs.

Why can't my serial number be found?

Look at the bottom of your MacBook Pro:

Thank you for the reply.

However, you might not understand my problem. I can find the serial number on the MacBook, but not the apple support page..

If the bottom panel has been changed out due to damage, perhaps the serial number printed on it is not the computer's serial number.

Have you tried About this mac -> More info as well? Perhaps the serial number is different there...

I know you said the screen is broken, but through an external screen it should work.

The serial number on the 'more info' tab is the same as on the box and the mac itself

Call apple or set up an appointment with genius bar with apple retail store and see what they can suggest, I know it is disturbing without knowing the status of your device.

It also won't be in the support links if it was not registered. Bought at a reseller, initially set up offline so that it didn't register itself is the usual scenario.

Should be able to go here and add it:

https://daw.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebOb...618204c476572a1b5e5fb3518&path&language=US-EN

Problem will be that you have nothing to show original purchase date unless you got the receipt when it was bought. While this will add it to your profile, it may or may not attach a date, and Apple has the right to request the receipt.

Now that said, the very first link in this thread isn't a serial number lookup. That's model #.

Thanks for the help. However, I've tried to register the serial number via your link several times without success. I don't receive the confirmation mail either...

If it won't let you register there, it's because it's registered to someone else's ID and they never released it, or it's blacklisted by Apple. Sorry.
