I think lots of people wish AirTags were easier to use with a wallet.

Does anyone else see a future play where the Apple Credit Card has some sort of FindMy/AirTag system built-in? Not only is it your credit card, but also a loss and theft prevention tool for your wallet? These wallet Tile devices have been getting slimmer and slimmer.

I think it is well within Apple's abilities to put FindMy in the Apple Card... barring any issues with NFC/swipe/chip... Thoughts?

I like the idea, but I wonder if they would become too thick with an included AirTag inside the card Also, they would need a battery or be recharable, making it even thicker.

Maybe they could taper toward one end so it could still fit in card chip readers, but then it might not fit in a standard wallet which expects symmetrical sizes. Also, they would either have to give every apple card user a free tag, or have two versions (with and without) to manage.

At the end of the day, I think they will create a "thin" separate AirTag at some point in the future instead, rather than incorporate it with an apple credit card.

I think the fact that the Apple Card physically exists is jut to throw a bone to people (like me) who don’t use phones for payments and the terminals that don’t take NFC. I think their long term vision really is to eliminate the card all together.

I think that hand in hand with this, people will be carrying a wallet around much less in future.

I very rarely take mine out with me these days, unless I am specifically going out to buy something that Apple Pay may not work with. A couple of years ago I rarely left the house without my wallet.

Not saying that an airtag for a wallet won’t happen, but I wonder how well it fits in with Apples vision of the future.

It will be a hit if Apple can make one, but how long for battery life on that Tile?

And I agree with persons above that the ultimate goal of Apple is to get rid of a wallet altogether in favor of iPhone.

With current technology, its probably physically impossible to fit it into something as thin as a credit card. And they can’t make it thicker or it won’t fit into card/chip readers. A lot of places still require physical insertion or swiping in the US. NFC only is one thing, that’s thinner than a piece of paper. There are a lot of components to make an AirTag (or equivalent) do what they do. Not the mention the battery (probably the thickest component). Typical PCBs are thicker than a credit card because they need multiple layers. They’d also need to rethink that (but if anyone can it would be Apple). The slimmest tile is as thick as 2 credit cards. Apple would need to improve on that by 50%. That’s asking a lot. And you immediately eliminate a user replaceable battery if you go that thin. They just don’t exist.

Yes, good point they are pushing Apple Pay, Google Pay etc. The only businesses that don't take it are ones that don't want to pay to upgrade their machines for NFC. If it was paid for them like in other countries I think they would be all for it, even if they have to pay a miniscule amount more in fees.

Btw, why don't you like using your iPhone for Apple Pay and rather use your card to insert or swipe?

Not a whole lot thought about it. I do have my debit card linked to my watch/phone, I just never think to use it to be honest 🤷‍♂️

I guess they could build it in, in theory, but that's going to be one THICC card (to be able to hold all the electronics it would need, like the board and, most importantly, the battery). You probably wouldn't be able to ever actually swipe it/use it.

That and there would have to figure out a way to stop all the magnets interfering with each other

I actually think Apple have indicated that they’ve No interest in baking find my functionality into obvious products. Ahem , Apple TV remote.

It'd be pretty tough. Tile's card version of their tracker is like 3 credit cards thick. I'd be pissed if the Apple Card 2.0 was 2-3x thicker.

I don't see it happening. If you need to insert your card, and it's similar to Tiles, which is 3 credit cards thick, you aren't inserting your apple card anywhere.

Only solutions are for apple to break technology and introduce the ability in the regular credit card thickness or release a separate card.

I also never see apple releasing a wallet tracker. They want everything to be stored in your apple wallet.

It would have to be an optional item since some people have jobs where they can't take a device with a radio in.

Walmart. Good old Walmart. They have terminals that support it already too, they just want to push their Walmart Pay service.

To add insult to injury, they enabled NFC in their non US businesses, such as Canada, and UK. GRRRRRRRRRR.

And also, to answer the BTW question, he must enjoy only getting 1% cash back, lol!

Yet 'Wallet' is one of the options you can choose in the item list when naming your AirTag. It may be that Apple wants you to use the MagSafe wallet, which you won't lose, since its attached to the back of your iPhone.

As the original thread creator... I declare it NOT self-promotion (even if it is, who cares??)... This is some impressive innovation on your part. Thanks for sharing.

Andrew, how is the speaker?
Thanks, appreciate the kind words!

The speaker is still “functioning” however, it is now super low volume and being inside the wallet made it virtually not usable for locating it. I can still hear it if the environment is quiet. I can still locate my wallet using the UWB though.

Apple will get rid of the physical card if they can. Don’t expect any new features built in to the card. It’s just a card.
