I am looking at the options for picking up a new iPhone 17 Pro Max and not sure if I am reading things correctly. When I select ACMI I can see that it states carrier selection of AT&T, Boost Mobile, T-Mobile, or Verizon is required. Normally I have been able to just purchase the phone without picking a carrier at all. Is this just a typo/bug? The “Get Ready” tool will not let me advance unless I select a carrier. This would be a bummer.

It's been awhile but I thought you could pick T-Mobile and not have to use them.

Not a bug, I believe it's been like this for a couple years now.

Selecting T-Mobile has, historically, not involved any actual account check. That should still work this year if nothing has changed.

Some have had success purchasing the phone at full price and then contacting Goldman Sachs after delivery to retroactively apply 24-month financing. YMMV with that, though.

Correct. ACMI requires carrier selection, and has since at least last year. People report success in doing the single-pay option on Apple Card for the unlocked device and later contacting support to get it switched to payments. But my understanding is some agreement with the carriers prevents them from advertising and offering this as a thing.

Others report success choosing T-Mobile since apparently T-Mobile purchases do not verify any account info during purchase, so it works no matter what carrier you have. And all iPhones sold by Apple are unlocked.
