Apple Care cover additional item later?

Please excuse me if this has been asked before. I've been holding off buying a new mac pro because of the inevitable ACD updates. My question is can I buy the mac pro and the Apple Care wait for the ACD update and then buy the new ACD later and the warranty still cover the mac pro AND ACD? Or do you have to purchase the Apple Care at the same time you buy your monitor to cover both items?

I've been trying to be patient and wait for the monitors to update...but I really want the new mac pro
