My S4 watch is glitching and needs to be replaced under Apple Care. The tech I talked to claimed it would be replaced with a S5 because S4’s have been discontinued. Seemed too good to be true and wonder if this has happened to anyone?

I’ll follow up when o receive the replacement.

Thanks.

So, Apple bases is this on what they actually have for inventory in stock for replacements. If they don’t have enough of the Series 4, they probably could issue a Series 5 refurbished if it’s actually something that they have a adequate mount of. The representative from Apple that you talk to has no idea what they will replace your watch with, because they don’t make that decision, nor do they have any say in the matter. They shouldn’t even Had told you that in the first place

I had a Series 0 Watch when they first released in 2015 and had it replaced with a Series 1 after there was issue, so it's possible and it's nice if it happens.

This!

There’s a chance but the tech support person won’t know for sure.

I had applecare+ and opted for the speedy replacement. I think, because the deal with that is to sort it a quickly as possible, I got an upgrade due to inventory issues. If you opt for the slower way I guess they are more likely to have time to get a like for like. In my case I had an SBSS 3 replaced with a SS 4, I wasn't going to complain about it being the wrong finish!

well I sent my screen shattered Series 4 LTE SPG (on Friday VIA Fedex) that has AppleCare Plus on it. I would love a Series 5 but guessing I will get a Series 4.

On occasion, I think about this... I recently got an S5 Ceramic - with 3 years of Applecare+

I wonder what would happen if, in 3 years from now, my watch was destroyed accidentally and I invoked an accidental damage replacement claim... Who knows - but I always wonder about models that are a little rarer. If AW's are up to S8 by then I wonder...

This is why I love Apple. They love delighting customers with experiences like this. Apple is unrivalled in the industry when it comes to customer sat.

You're right, In terms of customer service in the tech industry, I don’t think anyone’s close to Apple. I would say Amazon is probably a close second ‘runner up’ with their product line and services, but Apple is tough to beat, that’s one of the reasons they have underlying loyalty with their customer base. I know we always talk about watchOS and the latest hardware features, but when you have an issue with an expensive product given Apple MSRP, you need to know that they will work with the customer to make the situation whole.

Keep us posted. I have an Hermes S4 with applecare+ till Sep 2021. My hope since day one has been to replace it prior applecare+ expiring and just hope for a newer gen version.

well....in my case I just received the email from Apple and they have shipped my replacement and they posted the serial number of the new product and I checked on the apple coverage site and I am going to receive a Series 4 LTE replacement so I hope others get a lucky upgrade.

It has been five months. Can you give us an update?

Unfortunately I was returned an S4. I apologize for leaving you all hanging and hope you had a happy holidays. :)
Thanks for your reply. Was yours a SS version? Mine is a gold SS S4 44MM and it is acting up. I do hope you will get back to us before next year :D
