The Apple CarPlay is syncing Contacts from my iPhone to my Toyota car even though I have disabled “Sync Contacts” in iPhone settings. Screenshot of iPhone settings showing disabled toggle button for “Sync Contacts” is enclosed.

Is it a bug in CarPlay software.

Kindly guide how to disable syncing of contacts from the iPhone on CarPlay.

The sync is for a BlueTooth connection. Forget that BlueTooth connection on both sides.

CarPlay uses the car as a display and audio device. All data functions stay on the device.

Does it mean that the moment phone moves out of range or is switched off, no contacts and phone data remain on the CarPlay interface in the car.

I am concerned about privacy of contacts data which I dont want to remain on the car any more after I switch off the Car or the phone.

As I understand CarPlay, it's just a display for content that is on the phone. The contents never leave your phone, but the list of contents on your phone may be displayed on the CarPlay interface display.

Once the phone is disconnected there is no CarPlay interface in the car at all. Your iPhone is the "brains" that makes it work.

The thing that toggle is for is built-in car systems where you would just pair your cellphone (any old cellphone) over Bluetooth. In those systems, the car would download all your contacts so that when a call comes up when you're driving it gets identified correctly on the car's built-in screen.

If you want to be totally sure about this, leave your phone in the house (or put in in Airplane mode or something) and then go start up the car and start digging around. You'll find that whatever display it uses for CarPlay is either dead or just showing some generic stuff from the car's software. Root around the car's interface and see if you can find the Contacts in there and see if you find anything of yours.
