Apple will launch its next Apple Watch activity challenge on Tuesday, April 22 in celebration of Earth Day.

To complete the challenge, Apple Watch owners will be required to complete a workout that lasts for 30 minutes or longer, with the activity recorded through the Workout app or an app that adds information to the Health app.
On April 22, celebrate Earth Day and win this award with any workout of 30 minutes or more. Try to get outside for it!
Apple Watch owners who earn the award will unlock an award in the Fitness app, plus they will get a series of animated stickers that can be used in the Messages and FaceTime apps.

The April Earth Day challenge comes just before Apple's special Close Your Rings Day award on April 24, which is being offered to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Apple Watch.

Apple Watch users who close all three of their Activity rings on April 24 will earn 10 animated stickers and a digital award, plus Apple retail locations are offering a special physical pin while supplies last. The special Close Your Rings Day stickers are below.

I had an Apple watch for about 2 years in total a few years ago and didn’t even look at the fitness stuff 😂. Has this always been on there 🤷🏻‍♂️.

OPEN QUESTION: I work out five days a week, on my treadmill for 45 min at 3MPH. A good brisk walk, heart rate’s up, the works. Depending on the day it might record a 45 min workout, or a 30 min one, one day last week it said I worked out for 12 minutes. I can find no rhyme or reason for what it thinks I did. But I do the same thing every day. Any ideas WTF might be going on? My AW6 never did this. the AW10 I have now didn’t either, until a few weeks ago.

Anyone know if you can earn some of these limitted edition challenges without an Apple Watch now that you at least get a move ring on your iPhone? I had an AW series 5, but there were accessibility bugs in watchOS 10 that were deal breakers, so I traded it in to Apple while it still had value to get more off the price of my upgrade from my 12 mini to 15 Pro. The two things I miss are having all the activity rings and Apple Pay with my wrist.

Oddly, all the awards I earned with my AW, like monthly challenges and workouts, still show up in the fitness app on my iPhone, but all the limitted edition awards I earned are gone.

Make sure you are doing an indoor walk workout and not just general weight lifting or general cardio. I believe the workout is calculated based on heart rate in some cases. Instead of just treating the entire session like a workout, it only calculates heart rate above a certain threshold to count towards exercise.

This is based off personal experience and I have no data to back this up. Good luck

This doesn't pass the pub test. Some silly animation of throwing your hands in the air or doing sit ups are a poor way to 'celebrate' Earth Day, an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Whilst it may bring attention by engagement to the day through Apple products, direct environmental benefits appear to be completely absent.

My first thought seeing the headline picture was about the Mac Pro wheels.
Anyway, I never cared about these pins and all but that’s probably just because I was late to Apple Watch and I don’t know too many people having one either, and I know of none using it for fitness. But I get the incentive. Very cool achievements for this event.

yes, it's something apple has been doing since the original Apple Watch, given that it is a health focused device, it makes total sense :)
Honestly I think I have only looked at that app about twice 😂 since owning it over the years. I wish Apple would do a cheaper Apple Watch without all the health features, all I used mine for was telling the time and notifications 👍🏻.

Stickers look nice. Looking forward to completing the challenge and collecting those rewards!

Apple already does that (not cheaper) and it’s called an iPhone, which you already own. There saved you USD 300 😂

I know 😂 I just never end up using the health apps I probably should but fitness is so boring for me 🤣.

Talking about Mother Earth day - is there any limitation on how many times battery can be replaced in iPhone? Anyone did it 3 times? :D

Soon going to replace 2nd time on 11Pro as last replace was 2 years ago and it’s 82% SoH.

I thought Apple opened up these challenges to iPhone users as well, no need to have a watch? Since the Fitness app is on the phone as well? Was I wrong?

I thought so too. I used the nike running app to do a workout but didn't get the award. Also, all of the limitted challenges I've earned are missing from the fitness app on my phone, but all the other awards I earned with my old Apple Watch are still there. Weird.
