Apple has increased its out-of-warranty battery replacement fee for iPhone 16 Pro models, according to its iPhone repair and service page.

Apple Stores can replace the battery inside an iPhone 16 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro Max for $119 in the U.S., which is up from $99 for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. This is a 20% increase to the fee, which includes the cost of a new battery and service by an Apple Store. The fee may vary at third-party Apple Authorized Service Providers.

The fee remains $99 for the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.

Customers with AppleCare+ can still get an iPhone 16 Pro battery replaced for free, but only if the battery retains less than 80% of its original capacity.

Apple says all four iPhone 16 models are equipped with larger batteries, and all of the devices received an internal redesign for improved heat dissipation, according to the company. A metal enclosure was rumored for at least some iPhone 16 batteries, but we are still waiting for teardowns to get a proper look inside of the devices.

Apple had already increased its battery replacement fee from $69 to $99 starting with all four iPhone 14 models, so this is the second increase in recent years.

A comparison of Apple's current iPhone battery replacement fees in the U.S.:
  • iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max: $119
  • iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus: $99
  • All four iPhone 15 models: $99
  • All four iPhone 14 models: $99
  • All four iPhone 13 models: $89

iPhone 16 models can be pre-ordered now and launch on Friday.

Thanks, Jacob Harvey!

Until you realize you have to replace with an apple genuine battery or have to deal with a popup telling you it’s not genuine. And wait until you see the price of the official apple battery. Lol
Isn't that anti repair pop up rubbish being limited to a one time thing, by law?

Why would I use anything else?! It will still be cheaper DIY in time and money than going to a shop to have it done. And truthfully, I don’t keep my phones long enough that I’ve ever needed a replacement battery. LOL

Likely more about slowing demand vs. battery replacment options. Each battery replaced is likely one less new iPhone sold. Note: Reuse (replacing your battery) and avoiding a new purchase is THE BEST way to help Mother Earth.
To add on top, the beauty of all of this while saving Mother Earth is it's also the best way to help your wallet :)

Why wouldn't Apple charge more everything else in the world has gone up not saying I agree with it but people don't work for free.
You know you don’t always have to pass off pricing and cost of living discrepancies for employees to the consumer right? I’m sure a trillion dollar corporation can afford it.

Apple employees - we deserve better pay.

Apple - sounds good, we’ll just pass it off to the consumer and raise prices.

@tridley68 - everything has gone up so guess I should pay more and still earn the same in my current job.

Companies create artificial inflation and if people are willing to pay why lower it? It’s a vicious cycle but don’t you dare justify it.

Because phones are gateway devices. Their cost is of little relevance when it comes to how much they make off services (App Store and their own services). iPhones should be subsidized for this reason but they are still making a profit. I have zero sympathy for their bottom line.

Apple: Now replace the battery easier and faster!

Also Apple: We're now charging more for less work.
It’s more accessible and easier to replace so it should be more expensive. Makes total sense! /s

To be fair, the easier battery replacement was only mentioned for the iPhone 16 / 16 Plus in the press release. It wasn't mentioned for the Pros. We'll have to wait for the teardown before coming up with a verdict.

This reminds me of a similar story a couple years ago when the iPhone 14 / 14 Plus got a removal back for easier repairs, but the 14 Pros didn't.

Or maybe they don’t charge as much as you think for the labor but charge for the part. This year is new battery tech so shockingly it’s a more expensive part.
