Apple ciname display heating up with iMac 27 (2012)

Hi,

I got an iMac 27 (2.9 GHz Quad Core with 8GB of RAM) and I have attached an external monitor using the thunderbolt port. The display is an Apple LED Cinema display 24 inches. I have noticed that the display is heating up and some times I can hear the fans inside of it. This never happen to me before when I used the same display with my late 2008 MacBook.

I have updated to the latest OSX and it seems it has gotten a bit better, but still heat up.

What can I check or do?
