Apple Cinema Display USB Hard disk issue when Mac goes to sleep

Hi

I have a MBP hooked to an 24" ACD, in the USB ports of the ACD I have 2 disks, when I set my MBP to go to sleep the disk are not unmounted so when the MBP comes back from sleep I get a message that says the disk was not unmounted properly blablabla.

Is this behavior normal? If I connect the disks directly to the MBP everything goes fine.
