Hi

Just bought a 20" Cinema Display ( aluminium surround ). Is there any software out there that would let me control it's output ( contrat / colour balance etc etc. ).

cheers all :)

Go to System Preferences>Displays>Color>Calibrate

Or pick up a display calibrator on Amazon. Here is a decent one, it comes bundled with software, but is useless without the hardware.

contrast can't be controlled. you can calibrate and profile it using a calibration kit, like Spyder3 or i1Display. software calibration, like the built-in Mac one, shouldn't be trusted for accurate colors.

Thanks for the replies.

Seems a tad crappy to me that a quality monitor doesn't have what should be basic control options - colour balance, contrast, skew etc.

I'm not after high level colour calibration for print work - just want it to look better.

Which is easy enough to achieve from control panel, without any special tools.

I'm not finding that very good - I just get a series of profiles...no adjustment.
My cheap old TV has better control options:D

I'm not in front of mine at the moment.

You want to create a custom profile, not use an existing one. It'll walk you thru it.
