In fairness to the OP, the site usually displays a very "Apple" message about how they'll be back soon. This looks more like a mistake. Still, you're probably right that they'll no doubt be back by midnight PST.

Some people hadn't seen that exact message before. I had it too and it's not the same usual message that I would see year after year

Getting it too here in Aust..in fact was trying to access Apple Support and get the same message....my Apple support profile page loads but missing icons....#messgate

This is different. The Apple Store goes down but the entire website is offline, including the support section. You get error messages not the usual memo. They're having technical difficulties for sure!
