Feedback. Well Apple is asking for it. Should we give it to them? Wonder if enough people ask "Why don't you ever show off your beautiful operating system in your ads?" they will finally get a clue.

the first thing that attracts people to Apple is the design of the computers. And these commercials do show an iMac at the end, and is giving very important information in a humorous way.

Maybe the OS will come afterwards. Because most people know what a Mac is persay but don't know they run Microsoft Office, don't get viruses, work with digital cameras, work with windows, etc. etc.

Taking steps before jumping forward is a good thing

Also it would take a longer advert in my opinion to show off the OS in a commercial so they have a getamac campaign online to do that.

Switcher ads all over again

Yeah, but they did about the same thing with the "switcher" ads a few years ago. People standing in front of a white background talking about the computer, but never showing it. What was the most memorable thing about those ads? A stoner chick that went "beep beep"?

well you still remember them. so they served their purpose

And to add to the design aspect. That is why all the adverts are using the iMac instead of the mini or macbook pro at this time.

Since the #1 product associated with apple is the iPod, and what computer looks like the iPod, the iMac.

They said the new iMac was created from the same people that brought you the iPod. Hence showing that design will give the most impact or familiarity with something they may already own or definitely what they have seen and read about.

EDIT: What i will say that is odd is that apple seems to not show the URL for the getamac campaign, nor do they own getamac.com from what i can tell.

I also remember those PowerBook ads with Gregory Hines & Jeff Goldblum. And those Performa infomercials from the mid 90's. It doesn't make them effective. I did think the "Think Different" print ad campain was great.
But the point of this thread is to actaully get people to ask Apple to actually show the machine and it's functions this time around.

Only solution is to do another series of ads like the original iPod ads. Man sits at computer, (iMac), records guitar through GarageBand, imports to iTunes, plays and imports to iPod, plays as leaves apartment.

Then a simple iMac + iLife + iPod, Apple.

Lesser shown ads could include iPhoto importing while working with Pages on a MacBook Pro, (drag pic from iPhoto to exposé in a corner hotspot and select Pages and add photo), print out and add to report folder.

Importing family video from Camcorder through iMovie, possibly add a short slideshow, add soundtrack and burn. Cut to evening with Mac Mini connected to TV and use Front Row to play DVD.

Video talking to family via iChat, new member joins chat. That way each time we also cut to new member "live", different Mac shows. Finally the final member joins, Grandparents obviously living abroad and original person lifts new born grandchild to iSight so they can see them rather than just receive pictures and letters, (I actually used this scenario when the G5 with iSight came out and showed one elderly woman this after I picked up on her children living abroad and not seeing her grandchildren much, she was close to tears when I suggested this use).

May need brushing up on, but I think this campaign if widely used enough would lead to more switchers than ever. They could even show people using Office and other cross-platform apps subtlely to make a point.
