The 32GB AT&T white iPhone 5 that I preordered from Apple is arriving tomorrow. Yesterday when trying to update all of the Apple apps on my current 32GB 4S I ran out of storage and realized that maybe I should have preordered the 64GB model. Does anyone know if it would be possible for me to take the unopened 32GB preordered phone to my Apple store tomorrow, exchange it for a 64GB model and pay the difference? Do you think the store will want me to wait online with everyone else?

If you get in line... and they have a 64GB, I'm betting they'd do an exchange but they aren't going to pop you to the front of the line.

honestly why do you people ask these questions.. no one here is going to know the answer... the only people that can answer this is the apple store themselves

How to Return An Item
Ship your item back to Apple

To ship your return item(s) to Apple, sign in to online Order Status with your Apple ID and password.

After you sign in, you will see the items on your most recent order. Locate the item you want to return and click the Return Items link. On the next page, select the item(s) you would like to return and click the Continue button.

Next, verify the return item(s) and the return address on your address label. Once you have verified your return details, click the Print Now button to print your address label and packing slip. Affix the address label to the outside of your return box. If you have multiple items to return, you may pack them in a single box with the packing slip. We recommend using the original packaging if you are returning a computer.

Bring your item to an Apple Store

You can always return the item(s) to any U.S. Apple Retail Store. An Apple Specialist will assist you with your return. Your refund will be processed at that time. To locate an Apple Store in your area, please refer to the Apple Retail Store Locator.

Note: An iPhone purchased on the Apple Online Store is ineligible for return to an Apple Retail Store.

You should never return an iPhone 5 at this point. You should sell it on craigslist or something because so many people will pay so much more than it's worth right now.

You are going to have a long-ass wait.

I think you're misinterpreting why the OP wants to take it back.

It's a perfectly reasonable question because someone on this forum may have an example or personal experience to share that matches my situation. You could have chosen not to reply instead of being unhelpful.

Thanks to everyone who has replied. I'll stop by the store tomorrow and see what happens. iPhone Friday is always fun :p

x2 When I got my Iphone4 pre-order and tried to return it to the store I was not allowed to. Had to ship it back to Apple....

I'd wouldn't be too sure about profiteering--when the new iPad came out earlier this year, those thinking they could resell them at a premium didn't have much luck because there was no significant supply shortage, just lines. And seller beware--about 10 days ago they had a news story (in Dallas) about a college student who was robbed of two laptops at her apartment, after she listed them on Craigslist.

And, if the iPhone 5 was an upgrade to an existing customer, you may have difficulty at the carrier (AT&T or VZ) in getting a 64 GB iPhone 5 (at the $399 price) if you don't return the subsidized 32GB. Think these things through, folks.

Thanks, pbateman! You probably just saved me a lot of wasted time!

Good points, boxster99t. Trying to profit from these kinds of product releases has always made me pretty queazy and it just feels like bad karma to take advantage of people.

I'd wait for a few days and let the insanity at the stores die down, then take it in for an exchange. Or send it back to Apple...

OP- I'm in the same boat as you, but I figure I'll use it and see if it really bugs me. We have 30 days so why bother with all the insanity of the first day sales? :)
