Something weird is going on with the syncing of my contacts on my iMac and on Gmail's web and I can’t figure out if the settings are wrong, I’m doing something wrong, …

I am a Gmail user and emails between my Mac and the Gmail web sync perfectly. But the Contacts are a bit off.

On my iMac I’m running OS X 10.9.5 and use the Apple Contacts app version 8.0, Contacts tells me I have 511 cards.

On the Gmail web Contacts I have “All contacts (456).” The issue is the same using different browsers.

As a start can you think of an easy way to identify which records are missing in Gmail?

I’ve used the Mac (and predecessors) for years so some of these contacts date back ten years or more and they in turn would have been imported from various PC programs. I switched my email to gmail about five years ago.

I like to use the Apple Mail and Apple Contacts clients as my "main" but ...

Any advice, suggestions, … would be much appreciated.

Thanks
