I expected some new applications from Apple today. I'm sure there will be plenty of apps in the App Store when it opens, but come on Apple. With all the demos they've created to show off the SDK, they've got to have something up their sleeves, right?
First, I expected an iChat Application, text based or video. I think we may still see text based iChat in September when they implement the iPhone Notification Server. It'll probably be announced, with the updated iPod touch in September and made available to the iPhone as a free app in the App Store.
I also hoped for a Photobooth application which would have required the front side camera.
Next, I eventually expect editing of iWork documents, at least Pages' documents. This would probably be a for-sale application in the App Store.
Finally, I expect a game or two. I know Apple's not big into programming games, but they've demoed a couple of in-house games for SDK purposes and they keep showing a Backgammon game in the keynotes. I love Backgammon and hope to see a multiplayer version in the App Store on day one.
I think we'll hear some more about Apple's in-house iPhone applications before the release in July. There're are just some things that Apple really needs to establish as Apple applications on the iPhone before anyone else does...
Any other thoughts on Apple branded applications?
