Apple is preparing for the Worldwide Developers Conference that's set to kick off in less than two weeks, and today updated the Apple Developer app with information about the 2022 event.

The Apple Developer app has details on session videos, Digital Lounges, labs, coding challenges, and more for WWDC 2022, allowing developers to sign up to participate directly within the app.

Developers can watch WWDC content together over FaceTime using the SharePlay function that has been added to the Apple Developer app.

Apple says that there are several enhancements, including improved search, keyboard shortcuts for iPadOS, and more. Full release notes for the update are below:
Thank you for your feedback! New in this release:
- Explore all WWDC22 has to offer, including session videos, Digital Lounges, 1-on-1 labs, Coding & Design Challenges, and more.
- Sign up for interactive activities like Digital Lounges and labs directly inside the Developer app.
- Watch videos together using SharePlay.
We've also fixed bugs and added various other enhancements:
- We've rebuilt our search to be more extensive and to support quoted phrases.
- We've added more keyboard shortcuts for iPadOS.
- We now list your downloads in the order that you started the download.
The Apple Developer app can be downloaded from the App Store for free. It is available on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. [Direct Link]

Although it's made by Apple, it still doesn't feel like a real native app, it's jerky on M1, and it lacks animations.
Mac Catalyst still has a long way to go, and I hope this app isn't a preview of what's to come for the next year.

I feel like Mac Catalyst is a dead end myself. Probably should have been held back.

On another thought, what is the digital lounge supposed to be? A chatroom?

Interesting. Digging through the Resources folder within the application (right click Developer.app then click "Show Package Contents") shows some interesting icons, and notably, the omission of iPadOS. Wonder if that means iPadOS will be re-merged back into iOS?

Also, the macOS icon is... interesting. Looks like an iMac, but the bezels are thick. Allow the speculation to begin!

I am pretty excited for this event. I think for once’s with all the uncertainty no one really has a set idea of what’s getting announced. We all thought it was vr/ar, maybe a new Mac or two maybe a new display but all of the delay in China has made it so everything is pushed back and it seems no one really knows what to expect.

"Thick bezels" could just be a UI thing. Icons that are displayed at a small size need to have details that won't get lost when scaled down

Was it ever split?

Like, beyond the marketing?

if Xcode is ever released for iPadOS, what would the icon look like? or what would the WWDC app icon change to in order for its current icon to be used for Xcode? ?

Don't know about others, but for watching WWDC videos it sucks. I can never get the app to play nicely with my multi monitor multi resolution setup. I know, I should just buy more expensive monitors, but we need a stronger economy for that to happen.

With Swift Playgrounds being able to create and distribute apps (albeit simple), I feel that we’ll never get a full Xcode on iPad

If you really want to get down to the bottom of it, macOS/iOS/iPadOS/watchOS/tvOS/homeOS are all actually one OS. They're derived from the same base code of Darwin/NeXTSTEP/Cocoa, they all just have different marketing names and versions. So, yes, it's surprising that there's not an iPadOS icon in the Resources folder, especially as it seems to be for marketing, and as the other OSes are in there, with the exception of homeOS and iPadOS.

Then again, it could be an oversight of some kind, or laziness. Who knows.

I knew the low-level coding was essentially the same (which is logical especially after they have been unifying the SoC technology under Apple Silicon).

But, while macOS/tvOS/watchOS and iOS share a lot, I knew there were (some) modifications under-the-hood.

For iOS and iPadOS I knew there weren’t.
