OK,

So if I join the Apple developer for the iPhone, would that allow me to download the new 3.0 beta at all? / all the beta's after that?

Thanks.

aprovel process? whats that? So I paid £59 to be aproved? I thought it was pretty much instant?

It's not instant, you have to be approved before you are let access to any of the beta stuff. Approval on a normal day takes up to a week, will probably be much longer since everyone is joining..

Oh, btw, there are no refunds.

I'm sure I will get in.. I've done nothing wrong to not get in?

It took 9 months for me, but I think that has to do with the fact that I signed up last March.

For what it's worth, I didn't actually purchase the iPhone Developer account until yesterday and they sent why activation code an hour later.

I give you a better idea of approval time Nicholas, I applied 9PM last night
and was fully approved before 10AM this morning.

That sounds more like it. I really do hope I get in, I want to start developing my own applications...etc :)

You can log in to apple's dev section and download all their dev tools without having paid.
You can develop mac and iphone apps too, just not push them for the store.

yes; but i want to push them through the store..

Hi Nicholas,

For your information I've been waiting 19 hours now for my activation code. And to those saying it may take days/weeks/months - that may have been the case in the past but during the signup procedure it now says you will receive an activation code within 24 hours. There's also no mention of an 'approval process.'

There's also plenty of people around here who've received the code within just a few hours.

geekmommy - if you just want to play with iPhone OS 3 then there's no reason you can't do that without a Mac.

Obviously you need to sign up for the developer programme (I think giving $99 to Apple is payment enough to play with a beta!) and download the new firmware. You just need to get your iPhone's UDID before you upgrade it!

Thanks, Garry! I didn't think that would be possible. Now I just have to decide if it's worth it!

I'm a programmer by training/tinkerer by hobby and I'd love to be able to actually play with the SDK. If I thought that the chances of me being able to develop something that would pay for a Mac while in competition with 25,000 (50,000 by Christmas???) other apps, I'd do it for sure!
