I have seen some others posting about the same issues I am experiencing. Ever since updating to iOS 18, Apple devices on Windows does not seem to work. If I try and update my iPhone 14 Plus, regardless if it is a .1 or a .01 update, it will stall halfway through and the update fails. The phone is then bricked, and a forced restart results in the phone showing the DFU screen. At that point, Apple Devices will try (but fail) to restore the phone. I have then deleted Apple devices and installed iTunes, which also fails to restore the phone. I had to then go to the Apple store and they just hooked it up to a Mac and restored it using Finder. All good now, but I can never do a full update on the phone using my computer.
I know it is an iOS 18 issue since my iPad is on iPadOS 17 and still is able to be updated via Apple Devices on Windows, just like my Phone was when it was on iOS 17.

Has anyone found a solution (other thank buy a Mac or buy iMazing) to update their phones using a Windows computer? Or do I just update via OTA like probably 99% of the iPhone users out there.

Thanks for any help

I had similar issues on macOS, Apple Configurator failed to properly update my iPhone and ended up with “Attempting Data Recovery”.

I have come to the conclusion that it is best to use OTA.

On macOS or Windows, the software that is responsible for identifying iOS devices needs to be updated before trying to update an iOS device.
On Windows, you need to update Apple Application Support.

After posting that, I downloaded iTunes64Setup.exe and looked inside it. It contains AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi “Apple Mobile Device Support 18.0.0.33” signed by Apple on 3 October ‎2024.
