On the initial launch of the Apple Watch, you could buy whatever strap you wanted to go with your watch. Ever since then, there are limited choices, and if you want something different, you have to buy a second strap. This is crazy if all you want is a different colour of sport band, for example.

Given how expensive the watch has become, I'm finding this grating.

Sigh...

I imagine it's about keeping the SKUs as simple as possible. Even with the current setup there are a lot of options.

Yep. I guess it’s yet ANOTHER white sport band I don’t want.

So instead of complaining about it, you *could* easily sell it or, go to your local Apple Store, and you can ask if you can make a trade for the band you received for another band of equal value, which they have allowed many others to do in the past, even though they don’t advocate this. It’s just the way it is with Apple, but there are alternatives.

It is too bad they don't let you choose the band. I would rather have a silver aluminum case with one of the darker gray/black sports bands or loops. The grayish seashell loop is okay, but I'm not crazy about the white Nike sports band or loop.

I would gladly buy the S4 case only for a $49 discount. I suppose I can always sell the band that comes with it... especially if I get something kind of exclusive like one of the new Nike bands. I could see S2/S3 owners wanting to get one of those new Nike bands.

So that's most likely my plan, but I will probably end up liking the band too much to sell it.

Or they should have a voucher for $49 band.... problem would be that 3rd party sellers would have to implement it and it might be easier to give them 10-20 different SKUs than to have them figure out how they would sell a watch and band online separately. Also, I'm sure apple wants to sell people one box with everything one would need to set up your apple watch immediately (except and iPhone of course ;))

Really? Maybe my memory is faulty but I don’t remember Apple allowing you to pick a watch and band separately.

Yep, that's how it worked with the S0 release. Remember that you could book an appointment to try out different cases and straps?
No I don’t remember that. And wouldn’t that mean Apple would need every possible combination boxed up? Did you walk out of the store with a watch?

There were certainly more choices but you couldn’t choose whatever you wanted, they were boxed complete and not sold separately.
