Following the announcement of the iPhone 17 lineup today, Apple discontinued the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Apple typically retires its Pro models with the release of their successors, and this year continues that pattern. Both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are no longer available.

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max were introduced on September 9, 2024, at Apple's "Glowtime" event and released on September 20, 2024. Both models were powered by the A18 Pro chip and featured new camera capabilities, including a 5x telephoto zoom lens on the smaller model for the first time, as well as a new Camera Control button for easier photography and video recording. They retained the titanium frame from the iPhone 15 Pro models, but with larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes.

The iPhone 16 Pro launched at $999, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max started at $1,199 in the United States.

With the discontinuation of the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, Apple's lineup now centers on the iPhone 17 series, with the base iPhone 17 starting at $799, while the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus remain available at $699 and $799, respectively.

There is no longer an iPhone Plus it seems. so for those who prefer larger screens only the Pro Max is available.

This is also clever marketing as they don't have to use the 16 in the 'apple compare' pages to see how measly the comparison is with the previous generation which is maybe 10% improvement - they instead say all the hype of x40000 faster when they compare to 'older models ;)

Haha, this is so greedy. They just scared of this “progress”

...what part of this is greed? They've discontinued the Pro models every year after the launch of the new ones since they existed.

If people still want them, most carriers will knock $100 off the price and sell the remaining stock once the new models are in store.

It has never been this way. Previously they always dropped the oldest model in the line and for sure not a previous one. I mean this new strategy is a greedy one, cuz they know how small the actual changes they did if it is actually compared

Disappointing that the reason most upgraded last year to the 16 was for the "AI features" that never materialized....difficult to hold Apple accountable when they discontinue last years failure and leave those people out in the dark.....

I am extremely satisfied with my 16 Pro Max. The photos it takes are stunning and it has been a reliable workhorse for nearly a year now. A worthy upgrade from my 13 Pro Max. I don’t plan on upgrading to the 17 Pro Max, unless the cameras are a major upgrade from the already big upgrade from the 13 PM to my 16 PM. I love taking pictures and with the iPhone always readily available it has been my main camera since 2021.

RIP to Apple's gorgeous Pro design and colors. IMO. Def keeping my 16PM over that hideous design of the 17 Pro. On the other hand, the Air isn't bad looking at all...

Again, IMO.
