Apple today updated its iOS App Store with a new "Amazing Fantasy Games" section, discounting a wide selection of popular iOS games in the fantasy genre by 50 percent or more. Most of the 16 games universal, and all are available on both iPhone and iPad. The games range from puzzle games to platformers to full RPGs.

Discounted titles are listed below:
- BADLAND
- Terraria
- Oceanhorn
- LIMBO
- Block Fortress
- Radiation Island
- Goblin Sword
- Final Fantasy IV
- Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
- Final Fantasy V, Evoland
- The Bard's Tale
- Final Fantasy III
- Heroes and Castles 2
- Hero Emblems
- Ravensword: Shadowlands

Several of the games on the list are highly popular award-winning titles and are well worth picking up at a discounted price. Apple's sale lasts for "a limited time," which typically means that it will run from today until next Thursday, when the App Store is updated again.

Along with discounting several fantasy games, Apple has also made Warhammer: Snotling Fling its app of the week, and as a result, that game will be free to download for the next seven days.

Which one of these should I check out? I have BADLAND already.

What kind of games do you like? puzzle? platform? a mix? A lot of these are pretty great.

Radiation Island is a fun exploration/puzzle/survival adventure game, kinda sorta in the Myst vein. Terraria's a Minecraft-style game that's got a lot of content and will keep you busy for awhile. LIMBO's a great puzzle game that's very visually appealing. Oceanhorn's a Zelda-style game that's definitely worth getting. If you like tower defense, get Block Fortress. For Match-3 RPG, Hero Emblems.

I highly recommend Limbo; the gameplay is fairly simple but the atmosphere and puzzle aspects are incredible. Oh, it also features some of the least fiddly touch controls I've used.
Ditto. Limbo is one of the few games I've bought and it definitely kept me coming back to play it again. I admit though I had to use google for some help on parts!

Is Oceanhorn worth it? I shy away from apps with clunky controls and have great doubts when it comes to Oceanhorn, even though I really am interested in playing it.

I'm interested to know how these sales work from a developer's perspective. Do Apple subsidise the price reduction so devs still get the same amount per sale as if the app was still full price, or do they only get 70% of the reduced price?

I'd assume that although it's always reported that Apple have reduced the price of these apps, in must be done in consultation with the devs of the apps as unlike a "real" shop it's the dev who sets the retail price, not the retailer (Apple). That said, I guess the dev can reduce the price of his app anytime he likes, so the big benefit here is really the publicity that his app price reduction gets.

Has anyone got any info on how all this actually works?

It has had loads of great reviews. Really up to you if you are into Legend of Zelda type games though.

I already have FF III and IV on my DS, but this was a great oppurtunity to pick up FF V!

Whoever took that screenshot has a poor/casual taste in games. Not even one FF game, or Limbo, or Oceanhorn. SMH
