I've spent the last two weeks on vacation, leaving my new iPad at home. Now I'm back and I have noticed something strange about the white rubber cord of the Apple dock connector.

The rubber is not smooth, it's a bit grainy and it leaves a very unpleasant feeling at the touch, it leaves the fingers powdery and almost sticky.

Frankly, I can't remember if this issue was already present at the moment of purchase or it is the result of some rubber deterioration process. Of course it could be just dirty, but the cable is generally kept inside a drawer and other objects in the same drawer have just a thin layer of dust on them.

What do you think about it? Did you experience a similar issue? Can a clean the cord with a damp cloth?
