when Apple first introduced Apple TV+, I was skeptical and reticent to say the least.
But now, even talking to non-tech people, I'm surprised how much they like it.
The quality of original content being offered is like what Netflix could have been if they had continued on the strong path they started with. (Stranger Things, Daredevil, The Witcher season 1 etc)
Current Netflix originals pale in comparison.

No offense to Apple+ content/programming, but it seems more like there are too many categories. If you bat .500 here, you'll win a lackluster 32 Emmy Award's this season. Even that seems ludicrously over the top.

Each category is 5 or 6 noms, so batting .500 would be extraordinary.

Plus they're facing themselves in a lot of these categories, so .500 would be almost impossible.

That being said, having duplicate categories for limited series vs. a regular series is a bit much. Back in the old days when a limited series was something like Roots, it made sense. But now any 1 season streaming series is a limited series, so the distinction between that and a regular series has really blurred

I don't care for awards but nevertheless Apple TV+ is pretty great.

I'm currently following Presumed Innocent (along HOTD) and have several shows on backlog.

Also a good value in a Apple One family subscription.

It is too bad that Emmy's are not awarded for quality. They are awarded for the latest political fashion statement.
Apple shows are extremely well-produced if nothing else. The stories and plot lines are very good to excellent. The scripts are average to excellent. The acting is below average to excellent,

it's really quite the marvel (no pun intended, I swear) as an Apple nerd to see ATV+ as a cultural phenomenon. I felt the exact same way upon its debut; seeing people who are true devotees to some of the shows on there is a very "wow" moment for me.

72 Emmy noms is…quite something, for one distributor of content. it's clear Tim is putting a metric f—kton of money into scoping out new content + hiring people who are the absolute best at doing such.

Apple decided they wanted to follow HBO over Netflix - quality over sheer quantity, with some prestige focused projects as well. Seems to be somewhat paying off.

The real news here is the absolute dearth of quality content these days. Apple just advantageously pumps out more crap to fill the void and infuses it with their own ideologies.
Uh-huh, sure. Sugar, Slow Horses, Presumed Innocent, Lessons In Chemistry, The New Look, etc. are crap representing supposed "Apple ideologies" (whatever a fevered mind thinks those are).

A bit baffled to see TMS getting 16 noms. Like.. I watch it. It's okay. But 16 nominations feels like A LOT for that series. Especially the latest season.

Tinfoi-hat me suspects some cozy high-budget campaigning to get as many noms as possible.

Can’t wait for the last episode of Presumed Innocent. Jake Gyllenhaal has been great.

Is it not accurate to say though that one of the reasons they have so many nominations is that they pursued so many nominations?

Don't they specifically lobby to be considered for each category, and have to submit a specific example in each case? Is it not Apple's marketing department just submitting everything possible?

It sounds like you have some idea of these things. This is certainly the impression I have gotten about how this works. It's not like the committee is going out and selecting the films for consideration, there's a lot of marketing involved, yes?

Not to diminish the work, but not all good work has great marketing behind it.

Yes to all of the above! You could say marketing has always been a strong point for Apple, so they've definitely applied that strength here.

And you're right, the show/studio submits for consideration for each participant for a specific category, which could sometimes benefit or hurt the candidate. Just to go back a bit to one of my personal favorites, John Noble was never nominated for Fringe, but he always requested they submit him for Best Actor. If he was submitted for Best Supporting Actor, he might have been nominated.

The Friends cast often flip flopped whether they were submitted for Lead or Supporting roles, even though they were always considered an ensemble.
