Have an @me.com email such as "name@me.com" and have used that for years without a problem
Saw someting pop up a month ago or so suggesting it was best to use an alternate address such as "name@icloud.com so I added it to my account.
My @me.com server no longer seems to show up when I try to send out emails from it nor even one for @icloud.com
Its as if the alternate address had really messed up my ability to use @me or @icloud although I seem to receive emails on either address
No matter what I do i cant get the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) to show up nor even if I edit the SMTP outgoinog server list is there any sign of my @me or @icloud address, hence no mail can be sent out.
I was hoping I might just need to delete the whole account and set it up again fresh but its the account that this iMac is set to so I dont believe it will let me do that through email, connected to my Internet account.
So can anyone advise as to what my best course of action will be to make my initial SMTP show up once again?
And if answered.......please explain the actual purpose of this 'alternate address?"
IF i go into, lets say GMX and make up an email address. I can make up alternates there with all different names and even different GMX endings such as .ca, com, net, uk, etc. I can also make the first part of the address, before the @ part, a completely different name than the first main email address.
With iCloud, you cant do that. It must be exactly the same name on both so for example "myname@me.com" becomes "myname@icloud.com"
Hence, I will forever look at any iCloud.com address and assume there is an "@me.com" address with exactly the same front part-hence, its not hidden and easily guessable so WHY the alternate address?
Whats the point?
