I use the Virtual ][ (Apple ][ and //e emulator for the Mac platform) which is great, but wonder if there's a way to record sound (i.e. while playing games) on the Mac from it?
According to the online help page it's possible to record a QuickTime movie from what the emulator does on the screen, but it won't record the sound (regardless, the "Make movie of Apple II screen" feature is greyed out here, despite having a valid and authentic license).

Are there other ways to record its audio? Alternatively, ways of using other audio recording software routed to record its audio?
I'm on MacOS 10.14.6 Mojave and use Virtual ][ version 10.2.2.

I don't know anything about Virtual ][ (but I was an early Apple ][ adopter!). Have you tried Piezo? Have been using it for years and (AFAIK) it can record anything you hear through the Mac's speakers. The same developer may have other app(s) that might be worth looking at.

Thanks for your suggestion!
I've just installed the trial version and it appears to work fine with Virtual ][ -I was able to select the app to record from and ended up with an audio file. Looks like a simple app that does one thing in an uncomplicated way!

I've had the need to record the Mac's own audio from time to time and have tried several other solutions including the free ones such as Soundflower and BlackHole but I found they all very complicated, so after the hassle I've de-installed them to avoid any further confusion in the Mac Sound preference menu (they add several audio input/output options with non-descript names).

It appears the free ones are "geeky" and complicated, while $$$$ gives you the nice and easy to use ones. I've been looking at the various Rogue Amoeba solutions but always found them quite expensive, but every now and then when I need to record Mac audio again I find myself in a pickle, so I'll see about reconsidering and forking out the $$$.
Still using MacOS 10.14 Mojave I had to download an unsupported "legacy version" (version 1.7.9 in my case) but I read that it's still possible to purchase licenses (the current version's license which also works for older versions of the same app), so that's a good thing.

But if anyone knows of a cheaper/free solution (which works equally well) I'm all for that

It's been suggested to me that I use screen recording which would effectively capture both the audio and video from Virtual ][ (or anything else on the screen). I don't have much prior experience with this, so I tried out the built-in screen recording feature in MacOS 10.14 Mojave by pressing CMD-SHIFT-5.
This brought up an options window where I chose "Record entire screen" which works great, but it doesn't record any audio. I've rechecked the options but all I can choose from when it comes to audio is "Digital in" or "Line in". There's no option for the Mac audio itself.

Are there other screen recording apps I could use which does include the Mac's audio (or audio from the app's window which you're recording)?
