Apple today ended a program that offered customers with possibly defective iPhone 8 models with a free repair for their logic board, which in some cases caused the device to restart and become unresponsive.

The program officially launched in August of 2018 and targeted a "very small percentage" of iPhone 8 devices that may have had a defective logic board. According to Apple, at the time, affected models were sold between September 2017 and March 2018 in China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Macau, New Zealand, and the U.S. The iPhone 8 Plus was not part of the program, and Apple had previously prompted customers to its support website to check if they were eligible for a free repair.

Now, the program has officially ended, and Apple has removed it from its repair program list on its website. The program ran for more than three years, and while it has finished, customers still experiencing issues with their iPhone 8 should still contact Apple support as they may still be willing to help.

I bought a Silver iPhone 8 at launch with my first S1 Silver AW and my first set of AirPods. That was one of my favorite phones. It was so nice to finally have Qi on an iPhone. I kept that phone mint for 2 years and then gave it to my kid who trashed it. That photo made me a little nostalgic.

My iPhone 8 Plus screen touch sometimes stop responding and I have to lock the screen to get it working again. No recalls for the plus models.
It still works amazing under iOS 14. That bionic engine was a major leap forward.

I hope you didn’t buy him a new one!

How about taking responsibility for “loop disease” on the iPhone 7???!!!

I’ve now got a 2.5 year old iPhone 7, from new, that is in great condition now unusable due to this.

Coincidentally, a substantial minority of SE 2020 users experience random restarting and "popping" sounds when charging (yes, 5W Apple USB-A charger + regular Apple MFi Lightning cable).

But Apple is ignoring it entirely and most can't get repairs or return their SE 2020s.

I guess that's what you get for buying a rehashed iPhone 8. :D

I guess Apple's reasoning here is the logic board fixes itself after three years. Or that consumers ought to upgrade after three years.

Either way, kudos to Apple shareholders!

I bought the iPhone X at the same time I bought my 1799 MacBook Pro. The iPhone X with the A11 bionic had a stronger processor than the MacBook I bought. That was the first time I realised that ARM MacBooks might become a real thing.

Maybe in the US, Apple can pull this stunt,..not in Australia. Australian Consumer laws overrides any actions such as this for warranty purposes. If Apple is stopping a repair program, they would need to initiate a replacement or refund for a known defective product. 👍

I've learned that kids will appreciate and take better care of things when they buy it with their own hard earned money.
Eh I was never really careless with my stuff as a kid. If anything I’m a little more careless now since I know if I break something I can always buy another. When I was a kid if I broke something, I’d likely get a talking to and it probably wouldn’t be replaced for a while, if at all.

It’s also important that kids don’t have to worry about necessities growing up, so that they think of the big picture and become the upper class.

When did a smartphone become a necessity for a kid?
If a kid wants something, but can't get it, he will focus on getting that (e.g. chores) instead of the bigger picture.
Who cares if the kid is really good at washing dishes? It's a lot better to make bank and hire 20 maids.

I just held my old 8 Plus now after reading this and it feels so good in the hand compared to my 12 pro max. I thought I would like the old boxy design but I can't hold it for long without it aching my hands. I prefer big screens but miss the slim design. My wife uses the 11 pro max and I held it the other day, and I was like, man, this feels good in the hand.😀

I bought the 11, never tried wireless charging. I even have a charger since Christmas I never took out of the box. Should give it a try.

I've got an iPhone 8 which someone else is now using but its suffering 4G issues where it loses the connection and you have to turn on AirPort mode then turn it off so the iPhone can find the network again. This only seems like a problem since iOS 14.7, 14.8 is a bit better and now testing 15 to see if its any better.
