Dear fellows,

I work on Powerbook and since I have recently updated os X I started having problems with my external USB keyboard.

Let me elaborate a little bit more in detail.

My PowerBook is a 17” 2.8Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (PowerBook 5.2 from 2009)
Boot ROM: MBP52.008E.B05
SMC (system): 1.42f4

It used to run under os X 10.6.8

A few days ago, for several reasons, I decided to update the system and it’s now running under os X 10.8.4 (12E55) - Darwin 12.4.0

All in all, the performance of the machine increased greatly. However, a couple of days after the update I started to experience problems with my external keyboard.

It’s an aluminium Apple italian keyboard connected via USB.

Now what happens is this: if I hit 4, 5 or 6 on the numeric pad what I get is two keys: 47, 58, 69 (that is the right key + plus the key just above)

Sometimes (but not always) some of the alphabet letters get mismatched and the space bar gives “+-“ (plus minus) insteadof a space.

The most curious thing, to me, is how inconsistent the pproblem is: for a couple of days it kept working just fine (and nothig else has been installed on the machine during that time); then it stops working; after a day or so it starts working again, but the following day it stops working and it’s still not working.

During all this time however the keyborad always works fine if I connect it to another computer. It might be sheer coincidence of course that would be a strange and unlikely one!!!

The problem is also not connected to a specific USB port on the computer, as the keyboard either works or doesn’t work on any of the ports indifferently.

I tried to do some research on keyboard update but all I found was an aluminium keyboard update 2.0 from 2009. I tried to install it anyway but the system says that I’m already up to date and indeed if I check on the system information the keyboard version is already 0.69

I was tempted to just buy another keyboard but that wouldn’t solve the problem if the problem is related to os X and to my computer. Bluetooth Apple keyboards work just fine but they do not have the numeric pad!

As the update to os 10.8.4 is the only thing that changed on my computer, I believe that must somehow be the reason. But how??? And how to solve the problem???

Any help?

I’m copying from the keyboard profile:

ID fornitore: 0x05ac (Apple Inc.)

Thanks

David
