I am not quite sure about past releases but I could have sworn that Apple has never had the high end model of an iMac available in store.
I am really impressed that Apple is selling the 27" w/gt 680mx 2gb card, i7 quad core, 1tb hybrid drive as a standard option at the store rather than having to custom order and wait a long time to get the computer.
This decision by Apple will significantly increase sales to all those people who want the high end model but don't want to wait.
I am also impressed by the specs of the model. Comparing to the current mac pro I would definitely get the iMac over it.
