Apple has started directly selling ads shown in the Apple News app, according to Axios.

The report said that Apple News publishers will receive a 70% cut of the revenue from ads sold by Apple within their articles, and added that publishers will continue to receive 100% of the revenue from in-article ads that they sell themselves.

Apple has been gradually expanding its advertising efforts over the past few years. For example, it started selling ads within the main "Today" tab in the App Store in 2022, allowing developers to promote their apps to a wider audience.

Apple selling ads directly within the Apple News app could further boost its services revenue.

More details about the placement of ads in the Apple News app can be found in the Axios report.

Never enough is it….
What don't you understand about “nothing is free”?

Amazon Prime used to include ad free content as part of the subscription. Now you have to pay an additional $3/mo to get rid of ads. Same goes for Youtube except it’s $14/mo. If you refuse to accept ads you will wind up watching OTA broadcasting where commercial minutes outnumber content minutes. Yeah, it sucks

Gotta raise that services revenue so they can keep their “high multiple” stock price.
Or this is Apple realizing the billions they get from Alphabet each year for making Google the default for search might be going away and Apple is diversifying their revenue stream.

Apple has slowly come to the realization that selling ads is a huge money maker. 98% of Meta's revenue comes from ads. Meta's annual revenue is around $135 billion. Amazon did $50 billion in ads over the past 12 months and they're relatively new to the ad market.

Well, all things Apple surely isn’t free compared to same offerings from competing vendors. Wasn’t this Apple’s strength and justification for their higher prices?

I’m curious when the threshold of greediness hits a turning point.
