Apple GENIUS?? Yeah right!

I just called an Apple store in Boca raton in South Florida and I said "Hi, I know that you guys are opening at 8 am on Friday for the release of the iPhone 3G and I have a question and first the lady told me, "WAIT! Where did you hear 8 am!? And I said its on your website. Apple.com/retail" and she said oh i DIDNT know that, we have no information on the iPhones release", and I asked her a question about my plan and stuff, and she was already confused and she just said "It will be easier if you go to your local Att store for issues with your plan, its easier, she kept trying to refer me to att's store....This is giving you a clue of how thier activation process is going to be!

I also asked since you guys are opening at 8 am, then what time will the "Mall" be open to form a line, and again "clueless" she said I guess you would just wait outside before the doors open, I have no clue...


I know for sure I am going to a local att store.... faster i bet

yea our att store is like 100yrds from the local apple store so they come in from time to time, all the ones that came in today said they dont have a clue; how they r activating yet, wut time they open, how to spell at&t, or even when they find all that out...

It's not like everyone works in the right shift on Sundays to be able to attend a meeting...

I know that her response probably reflects their training so far on iPhone activation, but there are some things that you have to take into mind, she may not be somebody who is going to be selling the iPhone or involved with the iPhone at all (but if so, she should have referred you to somebody who was). And from what I can tell about Apple and their trends, they tend to not train the employees and such with new products until the day before the release. The geniuses didn't get their hands on the MBAs until the day before release if I remember correctly. So if they follow that trend, then the employees will not get their hands on the iPhone 3G or get familiarized with the activation procedure until Thursday. But I am surprised that they didn't have anybody to refer you to that at least knew the basics about the activation procedure.

Really? Since when is $12 and on minimum wage? Apple Genius's can make $25 an hour.


The news for Apple stores was just released a few hours ago. You expect every Apple employee to know? And she was probably going by what she was trained to say, she acts like she knows nothing, which is still the case until tomorrow morning, when they are suppose to tell everyone 8AM.

exactly...Many times those retail store meetings occur right when you have plans or are like 4 hours after getting off an 8 hour shift. There's no way you want to go back for a meeting...you just want to relax. Such is the life of a retail store employee. If you're there at the time of the meeting you'll attend otherwise most say screw it unless it means their jobs...and even then some people just say screw it.

I used to work at Target in electronics several years ago.

And the OP never said he was talking with someone from the Genius Bar...as I understand it (never been to an Apple store and I've never owned an Apple product) there's only certain employees which are called the geniuses. He probably just called and assumed he was talking to a genius.

Really, the Apple Geniuses aren't there for product information. They're mainly there for diagnostics and repair. Course Personal Shopping Specialist and Inventory Specialist might know...
