Does anyone know if it's possible to use a Apple Gift Card to retro-actively apply to a purchase of an iPhone within the 14 Day Return/Christmas Return Period?

For example: Paid out-right for the iPhone initially, would Apple then credit the Gift Card to the purchase and refund the amount back to the card as long as I'm within the return window?

I've been issued a Apple Gift Card after the purchase was made a couple days later (Typical)

Probably not. You’d likely have to return and re-purchase it.

But ask in the store… some store managers use more discretion than others with this sort of thing.

Really? I thought given the fact they let you hang on and trade in your old iPhone within 14 days and credit you the value back on the same purchase, they would also do the same with the gift card, they would simply just refund you the difference off the bill.

Has anyone managed to do this?

An iPhone trade-in is a very different thing... They are essentially paying you for the traded in device, not crediting you back. It's referred to as a credit because you are executing in conjunction with the purchase of a new device. What you are asking for is essentially for them to go back and change the payment method after the fact. It's not going to happen.

Okay, so if that's the case - Would Apple be able to technically "refund it" on the spot then put through the sale with the newly included gift card again without actually having to return the device?

Why don't you go to an Apple Store and ask them what you want to do. They'll tell you quick enough if it's possible or if you have to do it another way. Nobody on this forum can tell you exactly how Apple will respond except Apple..

I can tell you that they probably will, unless they decide not to.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We don’t know if Apple has a policy for that. It could depend on store manager decisions

So, I ventured back into the Apple store to hear it from the horses mouth.

Apparently it IS possible. I was told they can do it in-store, so they refund the phone completely then resell it back to you classed as an open box return with the included gift card with the added bonus of also doing this until Jan 8th due to the Xmas return period.

That’s a good deal

lol what you originally asked for IS NOT possible... they did what people here suggested which was to refund the phone completely and re-buy it.

When I worked at Apple Canada a number of years ago we did this often. Just make sure you have enough room on the credit card to have both phones on the credit card while the refund processes. Couple of caveats, that was over two years ago and was in Canada so your mileage may vary.

Functionally it’s the same thing, they walk out with the same phone having applied the gift card to the purchase. The semantics as to how the store processes it is irrelevant to the end user.

Sorry if I caused you any distress
