Can I preload my Apple gift cards into my profile in the apple store app to accelerate my purchase this week?

I know you couldn't in the past, which made it very time consuming during a pre order. Not sure about now.

I think you can add them to passbook, not sure how that works when checking out. People have suggested purchasing a low priced item from the store using a gift card, which leaves the balance on your account.

im doing that, and ive done a dry run. Itll add an extra 5-10 seconds to your time vs paying directly with Apple Pay.

The scanning of the card with the camera makes it easier. I think they began allowing gift cards using the iOS app in 2015.

It's impossible to check out with Apple Pay and Apple Gift Card together

which is DUMBDUMBDUMB
Yes, it is true. You have never been able to and still can't.
What happens after this?

order item > Select: Buy with other payment options > Select: Gift Cards > Add gift card > Select: Done

Won't your CC be charged the difference, and you checkout with Apple Pay?

Yes, your CC will be charged the difference, but not through Apple Pay
Gotcha. So, the card on file gets charged?

You would think apple would allow you to add the cards to your account similar to Amazon.

Yes, the card on file gets charged.

Apple does allow you to add cards to your account, that's not the problem. The problem is that you can't combine Apple Gift Cards with Apple Pay type of checkout.

Is adding to passbook the same as adding to account?

OK, so I just checked the app to buy an item. Click buy with other pay options, add gift cards (they are already listed as they are in my wallet), 2 check boxes. Go. Will add some time, but hopefully not too much.

I decided not to trade my 6S+ into Apple because I’m afraid the gift card thing will add too much time to the checkout process of the X. I’ll trade the phone into Verizon and use the gift card to pay my wireless bills. Plus, Verizon is offering me $40 more than Apple.
