As the Apple Music Festival continues at London's Roundhouse performing arts and concert venue, Apple environmental head Lisa P. Jackson announced that the company has given the historical venue an "environmental makeover".

We're making major upgrades to the lighting, plumbing, and HVAC systems; installing recycling and composting bins; arranging to turn used fryer oil into biofuel; buying renewable energy credits to cover the Roundhouse's September electricity use; and offering reusable water bottles instead of plastic ones.
Apple says they expect the changes to reduce Roundhouse's annual emissions by 60 tons, save 60,000 gallons of water a year and divert more than 1,600 kilograms of waste from landfills. Apple has continually noted that one of its goals is to "leave the world better than they found it", which Jackson echoes in her tweet highlighting the renovation. The company has also continually highlighted its own environmental responsibility with annual reports.

The Apple Music Festival continues until September 28, with performances from The Weeknd, One Direction, Pharrell and Florence + The Machine still to come.

All the graphics you see on that building are not reuseable nor biodegradable.

These supersize graphics are a scourge in plain sight and every large city displays tons of it, then dumps it when it's time to change the ads. Meanwhile, I see emails from graphics firms with the plea at the end, "think of the environment before you print this email."

What do you want them to do then? Not advertise? Not throw it out?

Yeah this is great and all, but can't they give the main room some acoustic treatment on-the-free while they're at it? Every show I've been to there (including two iTunes festival gigs) has had awful sound. Music is more important than the environment PERIOD.

(That last bit is a bit of a joke)

Apple should change to a PBC (Public Benefit Corporation).

It's a legal entity that is committed both to making a profit and benefiting the environment. Right now whenever they do environmental stuff, they have to come up with how it'll be profitable in the long run. If you make the change, you're no longer obligated to be profitable - you can do things just because they're the right thing to do.

They should have started out by getting Meyer Sound in there... *that* would make a huge environmental improvement!

I'm sure the investors are dying for this opportunity...

I'm just glad they accept Apple Pay in the bars there now. It used to be cash only and they would pull your pants down at the ATMs

I believe you're overestimating their intentions.
Surely they want to change things concerning the environment, but it's at least ALSO easily explained that the demographic they target is keen on supporting and buying into this as well.

So all the stuff they ripped out of the venue, where does that go, a landfill? It makes a lot more sense to replace things with more environmentally friendly stuff after the old stuff fails, not waste the old stuff while it still has life in it.
