I just received this e-mail ad from Apple.... "The new MacBook Pro has arrived." Funny, the computer pictured there is presumably a 15" powerbook. Note the lack of IR port, and the thickness - DVD drive is the powerbook height, not as low as it is on the MPB. c'mon now apple! Or perhaps they did this intentionally because the IR port doesn't fit so nicely with their clean design...

Oh yeah.....
Same with my email too.

Whoops!!

Isn't the starting price $1999 or is that the edu price:confused:

I wish the starting price was that for non discount.

Does it matter? You have the MBP and other's don't. You're not going to be using the 2D picture are you?

Enjoy your new metal, plastic and silicon!

Mail.app spam filters those announcements for me. ;)
For some reason it won't do that for me. I've marked every one I get from Apple as Junk and t moves it to the Junk folder, but it just wont' keep it up. But that's another thread.

okay i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the picture in the email is a macbook pro. from what i can tell, the optical drive is in the same exact place.

http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/intelcoreduo.html

in fact, that's the same picture on the apple site.

now, there's still the question of the ir port... if you ask me, apple photoshopped it out. why? simple. apple is trying to attract customers to buy their sleek new laptop. if the first thing they see upon opening their email is an enormous black dot next to the latch release, consumers are gonna be all like 'what on earth is that thing?'. if you ask me, apple wanted to avoid any unnecessary concern.

just speculation, but think about it.

Hmmm, I wonder how I got it doing this.

I think it might get tagged as spam by GMail.

After looking at my MBP there are many differences hat make me believe it is a stock photo of an old PB -
1. No IR sensor
2. Optical drive is perfectly aligned with latch on MBP the slot is lower than the latch
3. There is only a center mounted latch
4. The trackpad looks smaller than the MBP

Good on ya Mustard - beat me to it. Indeed, it's pretty clear that both photos are 15" PB's - and the one on the website just had the IR dot photoshopped onto it. Seems strange though; the MPB is thinner, so it would look even sleeker to feature it in that type of shot... (even if only by .1")

Good call on the trackpad - I hadn't noticed that...

He's in Ireland it seems...
It's $1999 in USD.
:)

Indeed I am in Ireland, but I bought my PB whilst in the States as a student to avail of the edu discount, so I continue to get the Education special deals e-mails.

I was hoping from the title that Apple meant they were now in stock and shipping within 24 hours, but no such luck. Ahh well, I'm not in the game for one anyway. I'm trying to sell my machine, not accumulate new ones!
