I had a couple crashes this past month. Maybe once a week. I figured it was the RAM maybe, but that passed memtest. I attempted to do Apples AHT Apple Hardware Test but when I try to boot to the DVD disk it attempts like its boot to AHT but then crashes. I get this message:

Apple Hardware Test had trouble reading env file
'Configs\AHT_default.env'

There is very little information on google or the net about this error.

Macbook Pro Mid 2010
OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.2

Do you get the same message if you hold "D" at startup? You don't need to boot to DVD for AHT.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509

When holding D without a the AHT disk in it doesnt attempt to boot to AHT. Goes to desktop. This laptop has been upgraded from Leopard up to Mountain lion so you lose that ability I guess. It gets to the point where AHT is loaded and right before it gets there I get that message. The fact I cant get into AHT bothers me more than anything because hardly any issues with computer otherwise. I have thought about looking into the http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088 issue since I have had the black screen rarely in the past and apple is fixing for free up to 3 years.
